Chapter 1 – The divine Power of Nature

Agara mudala ezhuththellaam aadhi

Bagavan mudatrea ulagu.

 

A is for all the letters of languages the first letter;

likewise Sun is for all lives.

 

  • Kural 2-2:

Katradhana laya payanenkol vaalarivan

Natraal thozhaar

 

Of all the learning you have, no purpose is achieved

if you do not follow the footsteps of the learned.

 

  • Kural 3-3:

Malarmisai eaginaan maanadi serndhaar

Nilamisai needu vaazhvaar.

 

Those who follow the footsteps of people devoted

to the society will live forever.

 

  • Kural 4-4:

Veandudhal veandaamai ilaanadi serndhaarkku.

Yaandum idumbai ila.

 

Those who follow the footsteps of those great

who do not yearn or abhor will never have pain.

 

  • Kural 5-5:

Irulsear iruvinaiyum seeraa iraivan

porulsear pugazhpurindhaar maattu.

 

The sorrow of ignorance will not come near

those who follow the glory of the grace of the learned.

 

  • Kural 6-6:

Porivaayil Aindaviththaan poaitheer ozhukka

Nerinindraar needu vaazhvaar.

 

Those who live by the way of those who lived by controlling

their five senses and led a disciplined life will live long

 

  • Kural 7-7:

Thanakkuvamai illaadhan thaal searndhaarkkallaal

Manakkavalai maatral aridhu.

 

Except those who do follow the footsteps of the peerless great

others will never be relieved from sorrow.

 

  • Kural 8-8:

Aravaazhi andhanan thaal searndhaarkkallal

Piravaazhi neendhal aridhu.

 

Except those who follow the virtuous, the sea of virtue,

will not be able to cross the sea of sorrow.

 

  • Kural 9-9:

Kolil poriyil gunamilavea engunaththaan.

Thaalai vanangath thalai.

 

One who does not adore a person powerful in his eight aspirations,

considered excellent is equal to a sense organ without its quality

 

  • Kural 10-10:

Piravip perungadal neenduvar neendaar.

Iraivan adi seraadaar.

 

Everybody will be able to cross the great sea of birth except

those who do not follow the guidance of the great.
